Jeg er en 36-årig kvinde med et godt job, to børn og en mand. Min barndom var præget af forældres alkoholmisbrug. Jeg skriver, fordi jeg har et problem med at modtage og bede om omsorg. Jeg har gået i terapi i tuba og været meget glad for det. En af de ting, jeg arbejdede med, var at øve mig i at modtage omsorg. Jeg er storesøster, blev meget hurtigt voksen, skulle skærme mine mindre søskende, tage ansvar og vise dem, at jeg kunne klare det hele. Min alkoholiserede mor var tillige meget ondskabsfuld, så jeg lærte hurtigt aldrig at vise svaghed, da det kunne bruges imod mig.
Dette mønster har jeg arbejdet med at bryde, så det er muligt for mig at kunne modtage omsorg fra min mand, når jeg er ked af det eller har det svært. Jeg ved, at det mønster ikke er nemt at ændre, og jeg er opmærksom på, at jeg skal blive ved med at arbejde på det. Jeg synes dog ikke, jeg får så mange udtryk for omsorg fra min mands side. Vi har været sammen i mange år, han er en dejlig mand og en rigtig god far, men jeg føler mig sjældent mødt med omsorg. På det seneste er jeg begyndt at tænke på, om det måske ikke kun er mig, der skal øve mig i at modtage omsorg, men at han måske også skal øve sig i at give det? Måske trivedes han førhen fint med, at jeg gemte mig bag en hård skal og ikke krævede så meget omsorg, og måske synes han nu, at det er lidt “besværligt”, at jeg kræver mere af ham.
Når jeg har forsøgt at tale om det, går det sjældent godt. Jeg synes hurtigt, han begynder at motivtolke, og jeg føler mig aldrig hørt. Jeg er klar over, at man jo ikke kan få alt, hvad man beder om, men egentlig er det vigtigste for mig også, at han hører på mig og mit forsøg på at bede om omsorg.
Jeg har en sygdom og skal snart have en operation. Det er ikke noget livstruende, men det er en smertefuld operation, jeg skal i fuld narkose og er efterfølgende sygemeldt. Operationen udføres i den anden ende af landet. Jeg tager alene afsted, bliver kørt alene ind til operation og vågner op alene. Det var også meningen, at jeg selv skulle tage toget hjem dagen efter operationen. Min mand sagde, at det kunne jeg sagtens klare. Min søster ville følge mig til toget, og så kunne han hente mig på stationen, når jeg var fremme. Lægen, der skal operere, mente dog, at det var en meget dårlig idé at rejse alene så kort efter sådan en operation og at det i det hele taget var bedst at have en ledsager med under hele forløbet. Det er endt med, at min far kommer og henter mig i stedet og kører mig hjem, men at jeg er alene under indlæggelsen.
Jeg ville sådan ønske, at min mand helt fra begyndelsen – også før jeg fik lægens vurdering – havde sagt, at han ville tage med. At han ville tage fri fra arbejde, at vi kunne få børnene passet, så jeg ikke skulle være alene. Jeg er egentlig så ked af, at det her på en måde ikke “trigger” hans omsorgs-gen. Det ville have været dejligt, hvis han havde sagt: Selvfølgelig tager jeg da med dig og passer på dig og er der for dig. Hvis han havde givet mig en stor krammer og sagt, at det var synd for mig, at jeg skulle igennem den operation, at han var ked af, at jeg har den der sygdom. At han bekymrede sig om mig.
Han prøver at opmuntre mig ved at sige, at det kan jeg sagtens klare. Og det kan jeg jo også. Det skal nok gå. Jeg ville bare ønske, at han havde en lyst til at tage sig lidt af mig, når det er svært.
Mit spørgsmål er: Hvordan bliver jeg bedre til at bede min mand om omsorg uden at det for ham lyder som kritik eller et angreb? Hvordan kan jeg formulere mig, så han hører mig, men uden at det bliver en anklage?

Hvor er det dejligt at høre, at du har været glad for dit forløb i TUBA. Du fortæller, at du som følge af dine forældres misbrug, har udviklet en evne til aldrig at vise svaghed, og at du nu prøver at arbejde med at kunne modtage omsorg – særligt fra din mand. Du føler dog ikke, at din mand altid er lige god til at vise omsorg, og du spørger om, hvordan du kan blive bedre til at bede din mand om omsorg, uden at det virker som et angreb. Jeg skal forsøge at svare dig, så godt jeg kan.
Det lyder til at være en rigtig god idé, at din far kommer og henter dig efter din operation – Men hvor kan jeg godt forstå, du ville have ønsket, at din mand selv havde tilbudt det og vist dig den omsorg. Du skriver, at du som barn hurtigt lærte aldrig at vise svaghed, og at du som storesøster har skullet vise, at du kunne klare det hele. Det får mig til at tænke på, om din mand mon stadig ser dig som en utrolig stærk kvinde, der ikke har brug for hjælp eller omsorg? Ved han mon godt, at du faktisk har brug for omsorgen, og at du ville ønske, han gav dig den?
Jeg synes, at du skriver en rigtig god pointe, nemlig at det måske ikke kun er dig, der skal øve dig i at modtage omsorg, men at han måske også skal øve sig i at give dig det. Måske giver han dig ikke omsorgen, fordi han slet ikke tænker, at du har brug for den. For at fortælle din mand, at du ville ønske, han viste dig omsorg, uden at angribe ham, kunne du måske starte en samtale om din operation. I stedet for at angribe ham for, at han ikke var der, kunne du måske sige, at det var dejligt, at din far hentede dig, men at du faktisk hellere ville have haft din mand ved din side, fordi du føler dig så tryg ved ham. I sådan en samtale kan det være en god idé at tage udgangspunkt i sig selv, f.eks. “Jeg ved godt, at jeg kan virke meget stærk, og at det kan virke som om, at jeg ikke har brug for omsorg. Så jeg kan godt forstå, hvis det kan være svært for dig at vurdere, hvornår du skal vise omsorg for mig. Men jeg har faktisk brug for din omsorg, fordi det giver mig en følelse af, at du bekymrer dig for mig”. På den måde tager man afsæt i sig selv, i stedet for at pege fingre ad den anden. Måske er han bange for at gøre noget forkert, og vælger så at lade helt være med at gøre noget.
Hvis du fortæller ham, at du er bevidst om, at du har svært ved at bede om omsorg, og foreslår at han kan spørge dig, hvis han er i tvivl om, om du har brug for et kram eller et trøstende ord, kan det være, at det vil skabe en åbenhed, hvor han vil være mindre bange for at komme til at gøre noget forkert – det vil jo allerede være et omsorgstegn, at han overhovedet spørger, om du har brug for noget. En anden mulighed kunne være, at tage det op i de givne situationer.
Når jeg læser dit brev, kommer jeg i tvivl om, om du egentlig har spurgt ham, om han ville tage med dig, når du skal opereres – eller fortalt ham, at du gerne ville have ham med. Nogle gange kan det virke så indlysende for én selv, at man selvfølgelig har brug for omsorg, når man skal opereres, mens en anden kan tænke, at man selvfølgelig ville sige til, hvis man havde brug for noget. Jeg sidder derfor og tænker på, hvor meget usagt der mon er i disse situationer, og om han vil få lettere ved at give omsorgen, hvis han får at vide, at du har brug for ham og hans omsorg. Her vil det måske ikke virke som et angreb, hvis du i stedet for at fokusere på, hvilken negativ effekt det har på dig, når han ikke udviser omsorg, i stedet fokuserer på, hvilken positiv effekt det har på dig, når han giver dig omsorgen.
Jeg har givet dig et par konkrete bud på, hvad du kan gøre, for at gøre din mand opmærksom på, at du har brug for hans omsorg. Jeg håber, du føler at du kan bruge dem til noget – ellers er du velkommen til at skrive ind igen.
