Jeg har en mistanke om at min søns far har et alkoholmisbrug. Min søn er knap 16 år gammel, og min søns far og jeg har ikke levet sammen siden min søn var 2 år.
Da jeg var sammen med min søns far havde han – det jeg vil kalde et moderat misbrug af pot. Han røg ikke hver dag, men ofte og om aftenen. Forinden havde han røget dagligt i perioder. Pot-misbruget betød meget for vort brud. Da min søn stadig var et mindre barn stoppede hans far med at ryge pot, hvilket han var åben omkring og han var stolt af sin præstation om at stoppe (uden hjælp). Min oplevelse er at pot misbruget blev konverteret til at drikke vodka om aftenen, hvilket senere blev til vin og min fornemmelse er at min søns far drikker vin jævnligt. Måske dagligt. Jeg var til en konfirmation for nylig hvor min søns far deltog, og han drak tæt.
Min søn lider af koncentrationsbesvær, tvangstanker og tvangshandlinger. Han oplever sig stresset og indimellem ret trist.
Min udfordring er at jeg ikke lever sammen med min søns far og derfor ikke kender hans alkoholforbrug tæt på. Jeg har et ønske om, at tale med min søn om det – men hvordan søren gør jeg det?

Tak for dit brev. Det lyder rigtig ubehageligt at have en mistanke om at din søns far har et alkoholmisbrug. Hvor er det godt at din søn har en omsorgsfuld mor som dig, der har et stort ønske om at din søn har det godt. Du spørger til hvordan du kan tale med din søn om hans fars alkoholforbrug. Jeg vil dele mine tanker om det med dig.
Min umiddelbare tanke er, at jeg synes det lyder som en rigtig god idé at tale med din søn om hans fars alkoholforbrug. Jeg tænker, at det vil være en god idé at gøre det på et tidspunkt, hvor der er ro omkring jer, og hvor I har god tid. Jeg kender ikke til hvor meget du og din søn taler sammen om ting. Hvis I normalt ikke taler så meget, kan det være godt at give din søn plads til, at det måske tager lidt tid for ham at åbne op for det, hvis hans far drikker på en måde, som er ubehagelig for ham. Når I taler sammen, kan du prøve at være nysgerrig på hvordan din søn oplever sin far og hans alkoholforbrug. Du kan prøve at spørge ind til hvordan din søn går og har det og hvordan det er for ham at tilbringe tid med sin far. En anden ting du kan gøre er at støtte din søn i hans oplevelser og styrke ham i at det er okay at have og sætte grænser. Du kan prøve at give udtryk for, at du tror din søns far drikker, og spørge ind til om det er en oplevelse din søn deler. Her tror jeg det er vigtigt, at samtalen har din søns oplevelser som fokus, så fokus ikke bliver at fordømme eller kritisere din søns fars alkoholvaner. Når jeg læser dit brev, er det heller ikke min fornemmelse, at det vil komme til at være dit fokus. Jeg synes det lyder som om at det er din søns ve og vel der er det vigtigste for dig, og at det er det der fylder mest frem for vrede eller frustration over din søns fars alkoholforbrug. Det er et rigtig godt udgangspunkt for at tale med din søn om det. Jeg tror, det vil gøre det mere trygt for din søn at tale, og du viser herved din søn at du er der og gerne vil lytte til ham.
Børn kan reagere på mange forskellige måder, når deres forældre drikker eller gør andet, der ikke er godt for barnet. Du skriver at din søn lider af koncentrationsbesvær, tvangstanker og tvangshandlinger. Han oplever sig stresset og indimellem ret trist. Det gør mig ondt at læse, at din søn kæmper med disse ting. Er det din fornemmelse at der er en sammenhæng mellem koncentrationsbesværet, tvangstankerne, tvangshandlingerne og tristheden, og din søns fars alkoholforbrug? Jeg bliver nysgerrig på, om det er noget din søn får hjælp til? Hvis din søn på et tidspunkt tænker, at han har brug for at tale med en terapeut om det, er han velkommen til at henvende sig til TUBA for at komme i et terapiforløb her. Jeg tænker dog, at det du spørger til er hvordan du skal tale med din søn om hans fars alkoholforbrug, derfor er det også mit fokus i mit svar til dig. Måske er det rart at vide, at din søn kan henvende sig her, hvis han får behov for det.
